Background In Britain 1950's, most working class youth's became known as Rockers in the '60s. After the end of Post-World War rationing, the state finally regained stability, creating a financial boom for these youths. They were known for the American Rock and Roll music that influenced them and the truck stops, transport café's, near newly constructed highways\motorways, they hung out at. Their style was heavily influenced by World War II Pilots as they were often seen riding with Jet Helmets and leather jackets. Motorcycles were popular means of transportation for the Rocker groups. The modified them by taking off any bits they deemed unnecessary and tweaking the engine to it's full potential. They modeled their bikes after Grand Prix racing bikes at the time. They were known Café Racers because of a popular form of street racing involving the cafés they visited. The race began when a tune was selected from a jukebox at the café. When the record started, the race began. The racers had to navigate their bikes though a series of pre-selected checkpoints scattered around the area. The goal was to be the first one back to the café befire the record finished playing. Style Styling a Café Racer is heavily based on the rider and there are a variety of combinations to make your Café Racer unique. From here, you can chop the rear seat similar to this: and proceed with engine upgrades. You can also add a circular racing number playe to the frint and the sides (on the battery cover). |
